With Precursive MCP, you can work with Precursive from an AI assistant such as Claude or Copilot, in plain language. Ask about your current work, who is available next week, or to log time against a Task, and the assistant performs it in Precursive on your behalf.

What MCP Is

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets an AI assistant connect to a business system through a set of well-defined tools, instead of working directly with raw data. Precursive ships an MCP server inside the Precursive package. It exposes a set of tools for reading and updating Projects, Resources, Bookings, Tasks and Timesheets, and any MCP-compatible assistant can use them once your admin connects it.

Two things matter most for you as a user:

• Every action runs under your own account. Every request uses your own Salesforce login, so the assistant sees exactly what you see in Precursive and can only change what you are permitted to change.
• It uses Precursive's own rules. The tools go through the same checks as the Precursive screens, so a Booking created by your assistant is sized and validated like one you created yourself.

For the full list of what an assistant can and cannot do, see Precursive MCP Capabilities.

Connect Your Assistant to Precursive

Your admin adds the Precursive MCP connector to your AI assistant once for the whole organization. After that, each person connects with their own login:

1. In your AI assistant, open the list of connectors. For example, in Claude, go to Customize > Connectors > Yours.
2. Find the Precursive MCP connector.
3. Select Connect.

4. Sign in to Salesforce with your usual login.
5. Approve the request. You are returned to your assistant.

Your First Questions

Start with something you already know the answer to, so you can see the assistant work with your data:

• "Show me my open tasks in Precursive."
• "Which Projects am I a Participant on?"
• "What is my utilization for the next four weeks?"

Then try an action:

• "Log two hours today against the workshop task and tell me what you logged."

Name the Project, Phase or person you mean, and ask the assistant to show you what it plans to change before it changes it. More examples and a set of worked use cases are in Precursive MCP Capabilities.

If Precursive MCP Is Not Available Yet

If you cannot see Precursive MCP in your assistant's connector list, or the connector connects but shows no tools, Precursive MCP is not set up or activated in your org yet. Your Precursive admin can set up the MCP server for the org.
